A breathtaking, one-of-a-kind vintage handmade couture robe or duster coat featuring a gold and silver metallic brocade fabric woven with Asian-inspired motifs. This heirloom garment was handmade by my great-grandmother, part of a multi-generational family of couture seamstresses who worked for Saks Fifth Avenue in the mid-20th century. Each seam and finishing detail reflects meticulous craftsmanship and couture-level precision rarely seen outside professional ateliers. Details: • Size: Approx. Medium (see measurements) • Shoulder to shoulder: 16.25 in • Armpit to armpit: 17.5 in • Waist: 17.8 in • Sleeve length: 18.5 in • Total length: 52.8 in • Fabric: Likely a silk/polyester blend with metallic silver and gold threading • Features: • Shawl collar • ¾ sleeves • Matching self-tie waist belt • Full interior lining • Mid-century brocade floral pattern • Era: 1960s (possibly late 1950s) • Condition: Excellent structure for age; some light wrinkling and age patina consistent with vintage fabric. Provenance & Significance This garment represents a living piece of American couture history. Handcrafted by a skilled seamstress whose lineage spans multiple generations of work for Saks Fifth Avenue, it stands as both a wearable art piece and a collector’s heirloom.
