Glamour Doesn’t Need an Occasion

Coffee runs get a fancy plus-one: velvet blazers, embroidered skirts, or beaded bags paired with denim and knits.

Everyday Glamour

An embroidered coat upcycled from Qing-dynasty tapestries went down the runway with jeans and an “I work nights” tee. That was Conner Ives’s fall 2026 opener, gold-trimmed jeans and all. Even a coat like that didn’t need an evening gown underneath.

Your version could be a velvet blazer over your usual tee and jeans. Try the piece you’ve filed under “too much for Tuesday” with the basics you already wear. You can let it be special without dressing up everything else.

Your basics aren’t going anywhere

Brocade, jacquard, embroidery, and beading appeared on fall 2026 runways. So did simple shirts and skirts. There’s room for both in your closet, too.

At Dries Van Noten, Julian Klausner mixed everyday jackets with detailed skirts. A collegiate jacket went with a skirt made from embroidered ribbon. Another look paired a denim jacket with a skirt decorated with silk thread, sequins, and glass beads.

A plain knit or crisp shirt gives a detailed piece room to stand out. An embroidered skirt and a simple sweater can be the whole outfit. So can a brocade jacket and your usual jeans.

You don’t have to repeat every color in the pattern or find equally decorative shoes. If the skirt is the part you’re excited to wear, the rest can be whatever makes getting dressed easy.

Vintage details, easy shapes

Colleen Allen used velvet with a metallic finish and torn lace in her fall 2026 collection. Her take on the bustle—a shape with extra fullness at the back of a skirt—was soft rather than rigid. She borrowed from the past without copying it exactly.

For an everyday version, try a velvet jacket that comes in at the waist or a flowy embroidered midi skirt. A fitted lace top can bring plenty of detail to simple trousers. Velvet or lace can do the dressing up, even with a simple cut.

You don’t have to stick to jewel tones, either. Chocolate velvet, cream lace, or softly colored jacquard can make the look feel quieter. A solid velvet blazer can be enough, without embroidery or jewels.

Start with the detail you love. Maybe it’s the plush surface, a scrolling pattern, or tiny stitches. You don’t need an entire historical outfit to enjoy that one part.

An evening piece can get another job

Bags got dressed up, too. Loewe and Gucci showed beaded or embellished bags on their fall 2026 runways. A bag can be the outfit’s one dressy piece.

A beaded bag can work almost like jewelry: decoration you carry rather than wear. It can make a plain shirt and denim feel a little different without asking you to change the clothes you’re comfortable in.

If you’re shopping secondhand, check the dimensions before deciding it can replace your everyday bag. Compare them with your phone and anything else you need to carry. A beautiful bag is more fun when it works for your day.

Dressy pieces have been finding new lives in secondhand shops for decades. Beaded boleros and cut-velvet shawls sat alongside knitwear at London’s Chelsea Antique Market in the late 1960s, according to model Penelope Tree.

Dealer Vern Lambert also reworked damaged clothes into new pieces. Tree remembered his billowing-sleeved chiffon dresses and patchwork skirts made from floral crepe. Clothes didn’t have to stay exactly as he found them.

You don’t have to change the piece to wear it differently. An evening bag can come along for lunch. A dressy jacket can become the layer you throw over a tee.

Find a piece you love on Curtsy, or start with something special already in your closet.

The clothes can be extraordinary. The plans don’t have to be.
